Hey yall!
I’m opening up a few one-off, unpaid assistant spots for folks who are eager to learn, build experience, and see what it’s like behind the scenes of a Sancho Smalls shoot.
These opportunities are best suited for people with some photography experience (film or digital) who are seriously considering photography as a professional path. I especially encourage BIPOC and queer creatives to reach out—my work centers our stories, and I want the folks behind the camera to reflect that too. Most opportunities will be in the Charlotte, NC area but everyone is welcome apply as opportunities in our cities may arise.
What you’ll do:
Assistants help keep the day flowing. That could look like:
- Setting up and breaking down lighting (natural and studio)
- Managing and moving gear
- Assisting with wardrobe or set tweaks
- Capturing BTS content (photo/video)
- Supporting me and the folks in front of the lens throughout the shoot
What you’ll learn:
This is a hands-on opportunity to:
- Observe creative direction and how I guide a shoot
- Learn to build trust with clients and collaborators
- See how I combine digital and film workflows
- Explore how lighting, color, and composition empower subjects
- Build your network and creative community
There are three ways to get involved:
- One-off Opportunities – For folks who are interested but can’t commit regularly
- Recurring Assistant Interest – For those wanting to assist more consistently
- Mentorship Interest – For those seeking deeper guidance and development over time
If any of that sounds like a fit, I’d love to hear from you.
Fill out the Interest Form to get on my radar. I’ll reach out when opportunities align.
Let’s get to work
